Ananke set her cup of tea on the table. “Why do you say that?” She leaned forward, invading Heather’s space and causing her to lean back. “You are a clever woman. You have the capacity for all-encompassing love. If you had stayed true to yourself instead of trying to take on the world, you could have been anything you wanted.” The goddess paused as she tapped Heather on her forehead. “But then, you wouldn’t have been broken and met Balgair.” Ananke grew thoughtful. “Who are you comparing yourself to when you say you are nothing?”
Memories of her parents flooded her mind, bringing tears to her eyes. As she sniffled, Ananke shared her memories. “Now it makes sense. You are comparing yourself to your parents.” Ananke commented as she leaned back. “It is true that you rebelled against your father and went out on your own, but eventually, you came back home.” The goddess picked up her cup and took a sip. “How did your parents treat you?”
